Fullblood Akaushi seedstock

Red Wagyu Genetics from North Alabama

Semen, embryos and fullblood calves built on BMR Mr. Tamamaru 60E ET and three Buck Mountain Ranch foundation females, sold straight from the breeder.

Signature Wagyu & Genetics is a fullblood red Wagyu (Akaushi) seedstock program owned and run by Matt Ragland in Hazel Green, Alabama, just north of Huntsville. Matt is American Wagyu Association member #2698. The focus is AWA-registered fullblood animals, bred for quality and marbling and sold with honest pedigrees.

What is red Wagyu?

Akaushi, also called Japanese Brown or red Wagyu, is the red strain of Wagyu from Japan's Kumamoto region. Fullblood Akaushi are registered with the American Wagyu Association as red Wagyu. The breed is known for fine, even marbling that runs through the cut rather than sitting around it, a tender bite and rich, buttery flavor, plus good maternal traits, docility and heat tolerance that suit Southern operations.

The herd sire

The program is anchored by BMR Mr. Tamamaru 60E ET (FB32805), bred by Buck Mountain Ranch. He is sired by Tamamaru, one of the most widely used Akaushi bulls, and his dam is by Kalanga Red Star out of the famous Gabni Rubi cow. He is long bodied, muscular, structurally correct and a gentleman around people. Akaushi semen on 60E is available now.

Why commercial cattlemen use red Wagyu

For commercial cattlemen, an Akaushi bull is a way to add marbling and eating quality to calves, from cattle that are docile, maternal and suited to Southern heat. Akaushi are prized for eating quality as much as for looks, which is why a fullblood sire or set of embryos can raise the value of what a herd produces.

The foundation females

Three registered fullblood cows, all bred by Buck Mountain Ranch, form the female base: BMR Ms Emperor 196F (FB38965), BMR Ms Rueshaw 01 249F ET (FB42885) and BMR Ms Rueshaw 1016 (U58601).

What we select for

Every mating starts from the same five traits: marbling, docility, maternal ability, structure and feet, and growth. Good cattle have to eat well, raise a calf, stay sound and be easy to live with.

Current offering

Genetics on offer include semen on 60E, a limited number of fullblood Akaushi embryos from 60E × BMR Ms. Rueshaw 01 249F ET, and fullblood bull calves out of the herd sire and the foundation females. Breeding consultation is also offered, with help matching sires to your heifers and cows.

Buying

All sales are private treaty; inquire anytime for availability and pricing. Call, text or email Matt, get pedigrees and pricing, put down a deposit and pay the balance at pickup in Hazel Green or at transfer from storage. You deal with the breeder, not an office.
